Recently, Barking Dogs created a promotion for Sony Pictures
Entertainment that stopped traffic. Literally. Showcasing the new film,
"Spider-Man," Barking Dogs flexed its muscle to get this enormous
inflatable replica of Spider-Man created. Hanging from buildings around
the world to coincide with the launch of the film (May 3, 2002), the Barking
Dogs Spider-Man is 60-feet tall, and a slim and trim 400 pounds.
- more than 388,800 square inches of vinyl-coated nylon
- 120,000 individual stitches hold Spider-Man together
(that's 80 miles of thread!)
- 60' L x 34' W x 15' H
- able to scale tall buildings in a single crawl
The publicity machine was also in high gear, as word spread
about Spider-Man sightings around the world.
Spider-Man the inflatable made his debut at Showest during
the week of March 5, 2002 at the Paris Hotel in the Las Vegas. His building
of choice: the Arc de Triumph. But there have also been multiple sightings
in some of the most famous cities on their most famous landmarks: In Los
Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Toronto, Mexico City, Tokyo and Berlin.
Proving once again, that Spider-Man isn't the only one who's an international
phenomenon. So is Barking Dogs.
